This recipe makes the Best Healthy Hummus with Greek Yogurt and Tahini, but no oil. A homemade high protein hummus that’s skinny, easy and delicious too!
Jump to RecipeLet’s not talk about how many months I’ve been wanting to try a new hummus recipe for. I might even say close to a year.
But with so many existing hummus recipes out there, I also wanted to go for something a bit out of the ordinary; Something unique; Something you would not find on many other sites, but also something you would be interested in trying.
So here’s my slightly unexpected twist on the classic chickpea based dip – a high protein and highly creamy garlic hummus made with Greek Yogurt!
Ingredients for The Best Healthy Hummus with Greek Yogurt
Unlike the normal homemade hummus recipe, this one has no oil in the ingredients list, but uses Greek Yogurt instead for the creamy texture.
Here’s everything you need:
- Chickpeas or Garbanzo beans. You can either use the canned ones or cook some from dry
- Non-fat Greek Yogurt the key ingredient
- Tahini which is also known as sesame seed paste
- Aquafaba or Chickpea Liquid from the can or from cooking the chickpeas. You could replace this with water instead
- Lemon Juice
- Minced Garlic cloves because I really like a good homemade garlic hummus
- Cumin
- Salt and Pepper
For a healthy Vegan hummus with yogurt, you can use Coconut Yogurt or an Almond Milk based Yogurt.
How to make Oil-free Hummus with Tahini
If you thought it was difficult to make hummus at home, you’re in for a surprise; this recipe is so easy, it takes less than 3 minutes!
- Combine all the ingredients a blender or food processor – chickpeas, Greek Yogurt, Tahini, chickpea liquid, lemon juice, minced garlic powder, cumin, salt and pepper.
- Process until you have a smooth dip.
Add some more chickpea liquid or water if you want an even smoother spread. Taste and feel free to add more salt if you need. This would depend on the chickpeas you use.
And that’s really it!
Transfer it to a bowl and indulge!
Ideas to serve High Protein Hummus:
Hummus really is such a versatile dip. Here’s some of my favore ways to serve it:
- With toasted pita bread – try my homemade whole wheat version
- Tortilla chips for a chip and dip
- Hummus Wrap
- Hummus Toast
- Or even a Hummus Pasta!
How to Store Greek Yogurt Hummus
Since this Greek Yogurt hummus doesn’t have any additives or preservatives, it won’t last as long as the normal store-bought versions.
Store this homemade garlic hummus in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.
This shouldn’t really be a problem if you’re in a household with multiple people since it’s so good, it might just be gone in 2 days!
How to make Greek Yogurt Hummus extra Healthy?
Another thing that makes this the best hummus recipe is that you can actually make it even healthier.
Use a non-fat Greek Yogurt – other than the high protein, this will make a low calorie hummus too.
If a full-fat is all you have, feel free to use that, but I would recommend using the Greek Yogurt for that protein bump, but also slight tangy flavor.
