5 Ingredient Chocolate Protein Truffles made with oat flour, cacao powder, protein powder and milk, and dipped in melted chocolate; These no bake protein truffles taste just like brownie balls, and are great for a snack, dessert, or high protein post workout treat!
THESE TRUFFLES ARE AMAZING. I kind of just want to leave it at that, because I don’t even have the right words to say.
They’re soft, rich and chocolatey, and just so good!
What’s even better though, is that they’re high protein LOW FAT truffles, because there’s no oil or nut butter – apologies fellow peanut butter lovers – here. And they’re also coated in just a thin layer of dark chocolate.
I came up with these because I wanted a new post-workout low fat protein treat, and I’m probably just going to make more when these last 4 are done.
Ingredients for Healthy Chocolate Protein Truffles
These Protein Brownie Bites require just 5 ingredients you probably already have in your pantry, so this the perfect recipe for homemade chocolate truffles!
- Oat Flour or Instant or Rolled Oats turned into flour. Use gluten free oats for these chocolate oatmeal energy balls if needed
- Chocolate Protein Powder – essential for high protein truffles
- Unsweetened Almond Milk for dairy free, sugar free and Vegan chocolate truffles
- Raw Cacao Powder or Unsweetened Cocoa Powder for the rich brownie flavor. This also makes them Vegan raw chocolate truffles.
- Sugar free Chocolate Chips or Chocolate Bar – To coat these raw cacao truffles, but still keep them low calorie, and with no added sugar.
These chocolate truffles still have no cream and no butter, which just makes them super healthy and low calorie!
How to make Chocolate Protein Powder Truffles with No Chocolate
These chocolate truffles are a no bake and no cook recipe; Just mix, roll and dunk easy protein energy bites.
- If you don’t have oat flour, process rolled or instant oats in a food processor until it forms a flour-like consistency. You need to sift it using a sieve and only keep the fine flour.
- Combine the oat flour, chocolate protein powder and cacao or cocoa powder and mix it until it’s all uniform
- Pour in the milk and then stir + fold with a big spoon until it forms a dough. It might look too dry, but just give it a bit of time.
- Spoon out some of the chocolate protein truffle mix, about a tablespoon worth, and roll it using your (clean) hands.
- Place the chocolate chips or chopped chocolate into a shallow bowl and microwave for about 2 minutes – at 30 second intervals – until it’s completely melted.
- Place the truffle balls in the melted chocolate, and use a fork to roll it around until it’s completely coated.
- Shake off excess chocolate and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet to harden.
Do this one truffle at a time. You might need to reheat the chocolate every now and then so it remains melted.
How to store Homemade Chocolate Protein Truffle Balls
These chocolate oat truffles need to be stored in the fridge since they’re made with milk as a binder for all the dry ingredients..
They keep for about a week in the fridge.
These protein chocolate treats are freezer friendly too! Place them in an airtight sealed container and they should be good for 2-3 months. Be sure to let them thaw on the counter before eating!
Some alternate ingredients for Chocolate Protein Bliss Balls
I made these chocolate oatmeal energy balls with oat flour and protein powder, but you can easily substitute in almond flour and collagen too!
Here’s how to go about it, and also some other healthy ingredient swaps:
- Use 2 scoops of chocolate collagen in place of the protein powder. If it isn’t sweet enough, add some stevia powder to taste.
- Almond flour in place of the oat flour so you have a similar texture, bit these won’t be high protein low fat chocolate truffles anymore because of the fat from the nut flour.
- I haven’t experimented it yet, but you could try replacing the oat flour with coconut flour, but only use half the quantity.
