Crunchy and chewy Caramel Protein Balls with almond butter and crunchy cereal. Salted Caramel and almond protein balls are sweetened with protein power and use almond flour; A gluten free and vegan energy ball recipe!
Jump to RecipeI’ve been using almond butter and peanut butter to make caramel flavored recipes for a while now, but these protein balls might just be the richest yet.
Okay to be honest, the real plan here was to make a crunchy protein balls recipe – hence the addition of the cereal in there – but it turned out to be a chewy-crunchy texture. Another upgrade to the already amazing high protein energy ball!
Ingredients for Caramel Protein Balls
These healthy and sugar free caramel protein balls are made with simple and clean ingredients like almond butter and almond flour, and make a great recipe for keto protein bites.
- Almond Butter
- Unflavored Protein Powder to replace some of the flour (and carbs) in the recipe for a slightly lower carb high protein. I use the Multi-purpose mix protein powder from Quest Nutrition.
- Vanilla Protein Powder for high protein magic cookie bar, and also replace the sweetener.
I recommend Protein World Slender Blend or ProteinWorld Whey for this recipe to keep it sugar free; Use the code HAYLSKITCHEN for a discount.
Another option would be Quest. - Rice Krispies Cereal or Puffed Rice Ceral
- Almond Flour
- Coconut Flour
- Unsweetened Almond Milk
Optionally, white Chocolate Chips;
How to make Salted Caramel Protein Balls with Protein Powder
These salted caramel and almond protein balls really are extremely easy to make – a simple no bake, mix and roll recipe.
- Combine all ingredients (except rice krispies) in a bowl – the almond butter, unflavored protein powder, vanilla protein powder, almond flour, coconut flour and milk – to make the salted caramel energy balls mix.
- Stir until it forms a dough.
- Add in the rice krispies or puffed rice cereal and then mix again with a big spoon.
If it’s too dry, add just a teaspoon of milk, and some more coconut flour if too wet.
- Spoon out some of the caramel almond butter protein ball mix, about 1 tablespoon worth, and roll it using your (clean) hands.
And that’s it!
- For that white chocolate topping – place chocolate chips in a bowl, add in a bit of coconut oil, and place over a bowl of boiling water. Stir until melted.
Then spread over the balls to make a caramel white chocolate protein ball!
To Store Caramel Almond Protein Balls
These salted caramel and almond protein balls are best stored in the fridge since they do have a bit of milk in there.
To store caramel protein bites in the fridge, keep in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
To freeze protein caramel bliss balls, place in an airtight sealed container or freezer safe zipper bag for 2-3 months. Let them thaw on the counter before eating!
Alternate ingredients for Healthy Caramel Almond Butter Protein Balls
- Almond Butter: Use Peanut butter to get a rich peanut butter and caramel protein balls flavor. Cashew butter for a nut-free option works well too.
- Unflavored protein powder: Unflavored Collagen, or even Almond flour or Oat flour
- Vanilla Protein Powder: The best option here is a salted caramel flavored protein powder for an amazing salted salted caramel energy balls recipe
- Almond Flour: Oat Flour, but use a little less
- Coconut Flour: Try 3x the amount of almond flour (I haven’t given this a try yet, but it should work)
- Rice Krispies: Use puffed rice or crushed Cheerios or any other crunchy cereal (you might have to play around with the quantity a little)
- Almond Milk: Regular milk or other non dairy milk
- Use milk or dark chocolate chips – Lakanto for a sugar free option again (code HAYLSKITCHEN for the discount) – instead of the white chocolate.
To make Caramel Protein Bites Vegan
Use a plant based protein powder and dairy free chocolate chips to make Vegan caramel energy balls; There’s no cream, no butter and no eggs in here already 🙂
ProteinWorld has a Vegan protein blend as well (HAYLSKITCHEN for the discount here too) which would be great for these protein bites.
