Now that I think of it I actually put down a protein powder chocolate sauce on my list a while ago, but never really got around to it. So I guess I should thank you all for the motivation here?
I’ve had this sauce with waffles and sweet potato fries and even just plain – a real good healthy chocolate sauce recipe!
Ingredients for the Best Protein Chocolate Sauce
This high protein chocolate sauce is actually made with just 3 ingredients – and water, but we don’t count that. No sugar, no butter, no buttercream, no condensed milk needed!
- Chocolate Protein Powder – this is what replaces the sugar here. I used Quest Nutrition whey-casein protein powder.
- Unsweetened Cocoa Powder or Cacao Powder
- Almond Butter
- Water
Make High Protein Chocolate Sauce Vegan:
This chocolate sauce already has no milk and no condensed milk, so it’s a great dairy free recipe and can easily be made Vegan. To make this homemade chocolate sauce recipe Vegan, use a plant based protein powder.
I recommend KOS here; Be sure to taste and add some extra sweetener if needed.
How to make a Protein Powder Chocolate Sauce with Cocoa
Other than being simple in ingredients, this protein powder chocolate sayce recipe is so easy it really does make the best recipe out there!
All you need to do is:
- Whisk together all the ingredients in a bowl:
chocolate protein powder, cocoa powder, almond butter and water.
And that really is everything!

- Use drippy almond butter so that it mixes well with the remaining ingredients.
- Sift the cocoa powder into the bowl – again to avoid a clumpy chocolate sauce.
- Add water a little at a time – too much can make it too runny too soon.
- Taste and add a little sweetener if you need.

You can store healthy chocolate sauce with protein powder sauce in the fridge or freezer!
To store in the fridge, keep protein sauce in an airtight container for 4-5 days. Lightly warm it in the microwave to make it runny again.
To freeze this homemade chocolate sauce, put it in an airtight container keep in the freezer for 3-4 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight and them microwave a little warm.

Ingredients
- ⅓ cup Chocolate Protein Powder, 30g
- 2 tsp Unsweetened Cocoa Powder, 3-4g
- 2 tsp Almond Butter, 10g
- 6 Tbsp Water, 90ml
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients – chocolate protein powder, cocoa powder, almond butter, water (add little at a time).
- Whisk or stir with a spoon until uniform. Add some more water for a thinner consistency.
