Jump to RecipeI needed a new post for instagram and this was the quickest no bake snack recipe I could think of. Enough time to make and shoot and have up the next day.
Super minimal recipe here with just 6 ingredients for the red velvet cake protein bites and then made pretty with some white chocolate.
It really doesn’t get easier!
Ingredients for Red Velvet Protein Balls
These healthy Red velvet protein balls are made with simple ingredients like oat flour, protein powder and coconut flour, and are great for a healthy snack. Here’s all that goes in:
- Oat Flour (you can make your own with rolled oats in a high speed blender)
- Chocolate Protein Powder for high protein pop tart, and also replace the sweetener.
I recommend Protein World Slender Blend or ProteinWorld Whey for this recipe to keep it sugar free; Use the code HAYLSKITCHEN for a discount.
Another option would be Quest. - Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
- Coconut Flour
- More Unsweetened Almond Milk
- Red Food Coloring for that red velvet effect
For the chocolate extra:
- White Chocolate Chips or Chopped Chocolate. I would recommend Lily’s to keep it sugar free.
Tips for Red Velvet Protein Bites
This these red velvet bliss balls are a no bake recipe, and really is quite easy. Here’s some pointers to get it right.
- Add more milk/coconut flour to mix if too dry/wet; Mixture should be handleable and rollable.
- Taste the batter and see if you need some extra sweetener. I’d recommend using stevia powder to maintain the consistency of the dough and have sugar free no bake cake pops.
- Use slightly damp hands to roll balls to prevent sticking to palms.
- If melting chocolate: melt in increments in the microwave; Be careful about this or it may burn. If you want to be safe, use the double boiler approach.
Let the melted chocolate cool a bit before coating the cake pops.
To store No Bake Red Velvet Energy Balls
These red velvet bites are best stored in the fridge since they do have a bit of milk in there.
To store red velvet protein energy balls in the fridge, keep in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
To freeze red velvet protein bites, place cooled balls in an airtight sealed container or freezer safe zipper bag for 2-3 months. Let them thaw on the counter before eating!
Alternate ingredients for Healthy Red Velvet Balls with Protein Powder
I made sugar free, gluten free and healthy Red Velvet energy balls with the ingredients above, but here’s some other clean ingredients you can try.
- Oat flour: Almond flour
- Coconut Flour: Try 3x the amount of almond flour (I haven’t given this a try yet, but it should work)
- Chocolate Protein Powder: Use Vanilla
- Almond Milk: Regular milk or other non dairy milk
- White Chocolate Chips: Milk or dark chocolate chips – Lakanto for a sugar free option here (code HAYLSKITCHEN for the discount.
To make Vegan Red Velvet Energy Bites
Use a plant based protein powder and dairy free chocolate chips to make Vegan Red Velvet protein balls; There’s no cream, no butter and no eggs in here already 🙂
ProteinWorld has a Vegan protein blend as well (HAYLSKITCHEN for the discount here too) which would be great for these chocolate covered energy bites.

Recipe is great. Tasted amazing. You will have to use your intuition with protein recipes as different protein powder will absorb and react differently. So you will have to adjust the liquid ingredients accordingly.
Definitely agree with you on the intuition! Thanks for bringing it up. Some protein powders are less absorbent that others.
Happy this worked out for you!
