Jump to RecipeThe brownie and cheesecake combination in these brownie bars really is beautiful – chocolate and cream cheese go perfectly well together in this dessert.
A super clean and healthy dessert recipe here though with clean and healthy ingredients.
Ingredients for Protein Cheesecake Brownies
These protein cheesecake brownies are made with a few healthy ingredients, and have no butter, no sugar and easily gluten free too; The perfect chocolate protein powder recipe!
- Chocolate Protein Powder needed for high protein brownie and also replaces most of the ‘sugar’. I used part whey-casein Chocolate flavor from Quest Nutrition, and part whey Chocolate from Dymatize for this recipe.
- Unflavored Protein Powder to replace some of the flour (and carbs) in the recipe for a slightly lower carb high protein brownie. Quest Nutriton Multi-purpose here.
- Unsweetened Cocoa Powder, or Raw Cacao Powder
- Whole Wheat Pastry Flour – or a regular all purpose flour
- 1:1 Zero Calorie Sugar Substitute – I use Lakanto, to keep this recipe sugar free; (code HAYLSKITCHEN for a discount here too)
- Some Stevia Sweetener
- Non-fat Greek Yogurt contributes to the oil-free part of these high protein brownies since it adds the moisture, and also extra protein
- Almond Milk or regular milk
- Baking Soda
- Vanilla Extract
- Runny Almond Butter or Cashew Butter (no butter or oil to keep this recipe low fat)
And for the Cheesecake Part:
- Reduced Fat Cream Cheese for a low fat and low calorie cheesecake brownie recipe
- Non-fat Greek Yogurt to add the slightly sour flavor, creaminess and even more protein! These Greek yogurt cheesecake brownies are made without sour cream.
- Vanilla Protein Powder – this makes for a sugar free protein cheesecake brownie since it serves as the sweetener in place of sugar. I used the vanilla protein powder from Quest for this recipe since it’s a whey-casein and bakes well.
- Unsweetened Almond Milk
- An Egg
Tips for Fudgy Cheesecake Brownies with Protein Powder
These fudgy cheesecake brownies with protein powder are rich and tasty and actually very easy to make! Here’s some tips to get this right!
Brownie Batter Tips:
- Use room temperature milk and yogurt;
This is so the wet ingredients and dry ingredients of the brownie batter can mix well.
- Use Runny Almond or Cashew also so that it mixes well into the batter
- Don’t over-mix the batter!
Make sure you gently fold the dry mix into the wet to combine them.
If you over-mix it, the protein powder will make the brownies tough, dense and gummy.
- Taste the batter and see if you need some extra sweetener. I’d recommend using stevia powder to maintain the consistency of the batter and have sugar free and healthy fudgy cheesecake brownies.
- Don’t over-bake the brownies or they might get tough; Remove when the tester/knife comes out still moist.
For the cheesecake part:
- Use room temperature ingredients
The cream cheese, yogurt and egg whites all need to be at room temperature or you will end up with lumpy cream cheese brownies.
- Beat the cream cheese well
You really want to do this step so the cheesecake part turns out light and fluffy and does ot get weighed down by the other ingredients.
- Use a low speed to beat
If you don’t use the low speed setting on the hand mixer or paddle stand mixer, you will get too much air inside.
How to store Cream Cheese Protein Brownies?
This high protein cheesecake brownies keeps well for a meal prep dessert or post workout snack.
Store cream cheese protein brownies in an airtight container in the fridge for a week.
To freeze healthy cream cheese brownies, individually wrap in plastic wrap and place in freezer-safe zipper bags or air tight container; They should keep for 2-3 months.

I’m always looking for a good brownie that doesn’t hurt the macros – something that is Fudgy and soft and chewy, and these were so good! They baked very well, not dry at all and the swirls of cheesecake mixed in made them hard to stop eating. I definitely didn’t let any leftovers make it through the night!
The chocolate and cheesecake combo here really is addictive. No leftovers is a great sign! So so so happy you loved them <3
These were so good! I didn’t have the unflavored protein powder so I just added in more flour like the recipe said! Super fudgy and yummy!!
It’s so great to know that the flour alternative worked out Erica! Hope you find more more recipes to try on here too 🙂
Wow! I made these this weekend. I will be making these again. So delicious. I used all Pyure sweetener. I didn’t have unflavored protein powder and used the suggested swap in the blog post. I had to cook them longer than the time suggested, but I think that’s because of the thickness of my ceramic baking dish. It took 43 minutes for me.
YASSS! I’m so happy you loved them so much to repeat, and also that those swaps worked out for you.
I believe the baking time would be impacted by the dish. Glad you enjoyed!
