Extra love for Valentine’s Day Protein Cookies – healthy, low fat PB blossom cookie with V-day themed peanut butter, monkfruit and freeze dried strawberry coating, Hershey’s Kiss on top!
Jump to RecipeAfter making my original peanut butter blossom protein cookies around Christmas last year, I really wanted to go for a Valentines day special along those lines. Literally made a stop at Trader Joe’s just for some freeze-dried strawberries to use for the coating.
Can you make Valentine’s Day Cookies without Sprinkles?
Yes! I saw everyone use those pretty pink sprinkles for a Valentine’s day themed cookie, but I used the freeze-dried strawberries instead! Gives the pretty pink effect, but keeps it a little healthy too.
Plus, you won’t have a big jar of sprinkles in your pantry stocked up for next year, haha.
Ingredients for Valentine’s Day Protein Cookies:
These Valentine’s Day protein cookies are made with simple healthy ingredients with a Valentine’s themed peanut butter too! Here’s all you need for this healthy V day treat:
- Vanilla Protein Powder for high protein low sugar cookie and also replace the sweetener.
I recommend Quest since it’s a whey-casein blend and bakes well - Peanut Butter Protein Powder also from Quest Nutrition; Or just more Vanilla.
- Peanut Butter Powder also known as Powdered Peanut Butter. I recommend Lakanto for a sugar free version (the code HAYLSKITCHEN gives you a discount). Or you could use the one from PbFit too.
- Raspberry flavored Peanut Butter – I used Love at First Bite from American Dream Nut Butter.
It’s lower fat and higher protein than normal, and just amazing (code HAYLSKITCHEN gives you a discount on these) in this cookie recipe.
ADNB have a lot of other flavors that would go well here too. - Whole Wheat Pastry Flour
- Flaxseed Meal also known as ground flaxseed
- Baking Powder
- Unsweetened Almond Milk
- Water
- Unsweetened Applesauce
And to actually make these low sugar Valentines peanut butter blossom cookies:
- 1:1 Zero Calorie Sugar Substitute – I use Lakanto, to keep this recipe sugar free; (code HAYLSKITCHEN for a discount here too)
- Freeze-dried Strawberries or Raspberries! I recommend the unsweetened ones
- Hershey’s Kisses Chocolates
Tips for Valentines Peanut Butter Cookies with Protein Powder
This healthy Valentines peanut butter cookie recipe with protein powder is super easy for a romantic date activity, and here’s some tips to get it perfect every time.
- Use whey-caesin protein powder since it works well with the ratio of ingredients here; Whey absorbs less moisture and won’t bake as well either.
- Add milk little at a time so the dough doesn’t get too runny.
- Taste the mixture and see if you need some extra sweetener. I’d recommend using stevia powder to maintain the consistency of the mixture and have sugar free and healthy peanut butter blossoms.
- Crush the freeze-dried berries very fine so they mix evenly with the sugar and form a smooth coating.
- Roll in granulated sugar; Don’t skip this step or the cookies will be too dry.
- Don’t over-bake these or your Valentines peanut butter blossom cookies will turn out too dry and not melt-in-your-mouth soft.
- Press in Hershey’s kisses chocolates immediately out of oven so they stick to the Valentines day blossom cookie, or they’ll fall off since the base wont melt.
To store Valentine’s Kiss Cookies
To store high protein Valentine’s kiss cookies, place in an airtight container on the counter for up to 2 days.
Keep these easy Valentine’s peanut butter blossom cookies in an airtight container in the fridge for upto 1 week or freezer (in a freezer-safe zipper bag) for 2 or 3 months. Be sure to let them thaw on the counter before eating!
Alternatives for Healthy Valentine’s Day Cookies
The ingredients I used actually gives you a real good and real clean Valentine’s day dessert for your loved one, but here’s ome options for a healthy Valentine’s day cookie recipe:
- Whole Wheat Pastry Flour: All purpose flour or 1:1 Gluten Free Baking Flour, in the same amount by weight; not cups.
- Peanut Butter Protein Powder: use Vanilla protein powder
- Unsweetened Almond Milk: Regular or dairy-based milk
- 1:1 Zero Calorie Sugar Replacement: Regular confectioners sugar or coconut sugar (this won’t be sugar free though, and also higher in calories)
- Unsweetened Applesauce: Mashed banana

Hi there!
I wanted to sub the apple sauce with Banana but I wasn’t sure how much I need. Is one banana sufficient or how much do i need to sub it?
Hi! You can use about 1/4 mashed banana here. It should be about half a banana. Make sure its fully ripe though (so it is sweet and easy to mash too!)
TWO peanut butter blossom recipes on this amazing blog? They’re my favorite cookie, and I’m in heaven. They just floated out of the oven, singing a sweet song of PB&J. I pressed a vegan kiss in the top and drenched them with strawberry fairy dust! Oh, these are all I need for Valentine’s Day. Also, I used 2 scoops (1 serving or 46 grams) of Orgain vanilla plant-based protein powder. Thank you for making these vegan-adaptable and craveable!
Oh you make me miss these cookies already Shelby! All the love and PB&J vibes to you! So so happy you loved these and that the plant-based protein powder worked for you!
