If you’ve been following food trends on social media over the last few months, you might have come across the viral Dubai chocolate. Its basically a chocolate bar filled with a mix of sweetened pistachio cream and kataifi (shredded pieces phyllo dough). Quite a fun one, right?
Unfortunately if you’re looking for something healthy to eat on the regular, that original treat doesn’t really fit the bill. So I went ahead and made this recipe as an alternative.
I did consider using pistachio cream coz I actually got my hands on some last week, but went ahead with regular pistachios instead just to make it more accessible.

Chocolate Base:

- Chocolate Protein Powder – This serves as the protein source and sweetness source as well. I use Quest Chocolate Whey-Casein protein powder.
- Cocoa Powder – Deepens the chocolate flavor!
Crunchy Pistachio Layer:
- Roasted Unsalted Pistachios – This gives you that Middle Eastern vibe as well as crunch, nuttiness, and healthy fats.
- Rice Chex Cereal – As a replacement of kataifi to get that crunch.
Chocolate Topping:
- Sugar-Free Chocolate – for topping. I recommend the one from Lily’s.
Optionally, you might need a bit of Coconut Oil to melt the chocolate and some Sweetener like stevia to sweeten the yogurt mix (depending on your protein powder).

FAQs
No. The viral Dubai chocolate is not really healthy since it has a very high amount of sugar, fat and calories. This comes from the regular sugar-loaded chocolate itself as well as the pistachio cream (which also has added sugar). All of this really adds to the fat and calories of the classic Dubai chocolate.
The green filling inside the viral Dubai chocolate is a mix of sweetened pistachio cream and kataifi (shredded pieces phyllo dough).
In this recipe though, we use full pistachios and rice chex cereal to replace the kataifi.
The Dubai chocolate was created sometime in 2021, but became a “big deal” in 2024 when it got popular on social media. The creativity of a chocolate bar filled with a mixture of pistachio cream + kataifi (shredded pieces phyllo dough) is what made it popular. It’s got a very unique flavor and texture profile that you wouldn’t expect!
