An Instant Iced Vanilla Latte Protein Shake that tastes just like the hot beverage, but only thicker, colder, and high in protein! Sure to wake you up for (or after) that early morning workout!
Jump to RecipeOh and today’s National Protein Day, so no better time to share this right?
I’m not your usual coffee drinker – all that espresso, americano, cappuccino – I don’t even know what they are!
All I know about is a vanilla latte. And that’s because it takes like a nice creamy vanilla-coffee drink.
I make one pretty much every day of the week, as long as I’m at work, but I go decaf. Clearly all I go for is the taste. No caffeine needed.
I’ve been home this week though, and I don’t have that fancy barista espresso machine here (yes I’ve kinda learned how to use it). So I decided to make a latte with instant coffee instead, like an instant coffee espresso.
But then, no frother for the milk. So that would-be fancy beverage turned into a regular coffee.
And to take it further, I don’t have any vanilla syrup (sugar-free of course) at home either.
Instant Coffee + Vanilla Protein
That drink already turned into something so different, so I just went with it:
- Instant coffee for espresso
- Cold almond milk to make it a cold coffee
- Vanilla protein powder for the flavor
I used Quest Nutrition’s Vanilla Milkshake Protein Powder because its just bomb!
Thick Shake
I really really like my shakes thick – that plain old liquid consistency doesn’t cut it for me. So get that part right:
- Greek Yogurt for the thickness and a little more protein
- Ice cubes for extra thickness to make it like an iced coffee!
So this turned into an iced vanilla coffee yogurt protein shake.Too windy of a name!
Protein Vanilla Latte
But it really tasted like the original, only thicker, cold and with protein powder instead.
So in the end I did get my vanilla latte fix, just iced and as a protein shake!
Most coffee protein shake recipes online call for cold brew or espresso, but this one’s so much easier!
I also know Quest has a coffee protein shake as well – which I haven’t tried yet – but I wonder whether this tastes anything like that. Would be like a DIY substitute if it did.

I don’t normally like vanilla protein. But boy was this DELICIOUS!!!!!!!! I followed the recipe to the T and did not add or take anything out. So good!
One of my favs! I’m not really a fan of the simple vanilla protein shake either, but that coffee in here really takes it to a whole other level. So happy you loved it as much as I did 🙂
I absolutely LOVED this smoothie. It’s a great option for a post-workout delight. I doubled the quantities of the ingredients, had half of the smoothie yesterday and half today. Both tasted wonderfully. I think I might make this a part of my routine.
Amazing! So so happy to hear that; And also to know that this protein shake stays good overnight too. A great make ahead option!
I ordered the Vanilla flavored protein powder just so that I could try this recipe.
And so glad that I did!
Such a yummy and protein dense breakfast to kickstart the day.
I’m so happy to hear that Pallavi! Definitely worth the price for this particular caffeine-boost 😉
