The best double Chocolate Protein Popcorn recipe complete with dark chocolate protein crumbles! This chocolate covered protein popcorn uses protein powder, melted chocolate and almond butter and is quite the perfect high protein snack or dessert.
Jump to RecipeOkay this was a total fluke, but SUCH a good one.
I actually planned on making protein popcorn cups adapted from a recipe I saw on IG, but swapped out the coconut oil for almond butter and this happened.
The mixture was supposed to be more runny so it would hold the popcorn together, but that never happened. I got something more crumbly, but SO good.
Think chunks of high protein dark chocolate while munching on chocolate protein popcorn.
How can I doctor up popcorn?

You should have a thick dry mix.
- Use hands to crumble.
- Add popcorn and toss well.

Yes, you can store homemade protein chocolate popcorn, but you need to keep it in the fridge. Place the popcorn in an airtight container and it will keep in the fridge for 2-3 days.
Trust me, it’s going to be hard to have any leftovers from this recipe, but if you track macros or calories like I do, you might want to keep some servings of this for the next day.
Tips for the Best Protein Popcorn!
Chocolate covered protein popcorn really is easy to make, but here’s some things to make note of:
- Let the chocolate cool before adding the remaining ingredients; This prevents the mix from hardening too soon.
- Use room temperature runny nut butter; Cold and hard version will not mix well.
- Stir vigorously to prevent a lumpy consistency; You should have a uniform mass at the end and easily crumble it.
Alternatives for Healthy Popcorn Recipe
This healthy protein dessert or snack is quite customizable to fit your needs;
- Replace dark chocolate with semi sweet or milk or even white chocolate; Vegan or dairy free chocolate works too.
- Butter or plain vegetable oil in place of coconut oil
- Any other nut or seed butter (peanut butter, cashew butter or tahini) can be used to replace almond butter
- Honey in place of maple syrup (but this won’t be sugar-free or Vegan)
