Ingredients for Birthday Cake Protein Brownies
These birthday cake protein brownies are made with low sugar high protein ingredients, and you’re really gonna love this one! Here’s everything you need.
The Dry Ingredients:
- Whey-Casein Chocolate Protein Powder needed for high protein brownie; I used whey-casein Chocolate flavor from Quest Nutrition
- Whey Chocolate Protein Powder; The one from Dymatize is what I used.
- Unflavored Protein Powder to replace some of the flour (and carbs) in the recipe for a slightly lower carb high protein brownie. Quest Nutrition Multi-purpose here.
- Unsweetened Cocoa Powder, or Raw Cacao Powder
- Whole Wheat Pastry Flour – or a regular all purpose flour
- 1:1 Zero Calorie Sugar Substitute – I use Lakanto monkfruit sweetener to keep this recipe sugar free
The Wet Ingredients:
- Non-fat Greek Yogurt to give these brownies the moist texture without any butter or oil. Also adds extra protein!
- Unsweetened Applesauce
- Almond Milk or regular milk
- Baking Soda and Baking Powder
- Vanilla Extract
- Runny Almond Butter or Cashew Butter (no butter or oil to keep this recipe low fat)
I recommend American Dream Nut Butter (discount code HAYLSKITCHEN) since it’s lower fat and higher protein.
For the Protein Birthday Cake Frosting on top:
- Non-fat Greek Yogurt for a high protein custard
- Birthday Cake Protein Powder; the Birthday Cake Protein Cookie Butter Powder from Flex is the one I used
- Sprinkles
How to make Funfetti Protein Brownies?
This recipe for funfetti protein brownies is perfect for a weekend baking session – it’s super easy! Just mix and bake the brownies, and then add on the funfetti protein frosting on top.
Start with the protein brownie:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a baking pan (about 8”) with parchment paper.
- Whisk all the dry ingredients in bowl – chocolate protein powders, unflavored protein powder, cocoa powder, flour, sweetener, baking soda.
- Whisk the wet ingredients in a large bowl – yogurt, milk, applesauce, nut butter and vanilla.
- Add the dry mix to the wet and whisk until just combined. Just be gentle and don’t over-mix the batter. The protein powder will make the brownie too dense.
Taste batter and add stevia powder if you want it sweeter.
- Transfer the protein brownie batter into pan, spread evenly and bake for about 25-30 minutes.
tester (toothpick or thin sharp knife) comes out mostly dry.
Then the Protein Birthday Cake Fristing:
- LET THE BROWNIES COOL or the frosting on top will melt away.
- Combine yogurt and protein powder in a bowl and mix well.
Add most sprinkles and fold.
- Spread frosting on top of brownie.
- Add remaining sprinkles on top.
Tips for Sprinkle Brownies with Protein Powder
- Use room temperature milk and yogurt;
This is so the wet ingredients and dry ingredients can mix well.
- Use Creamy Almond Butter also so that it mixes well into the protein brownie batter.
- Don’t over-mix the batter!
Stop whisking when the wet and dry mix just combine.
If you over-mix it, the protein powder will make the brownies tough, dense and gummy. - Taste the batter and see if you need some extra sweetener. I’d recommend using stevia powder to maintain the consistency of the batter so you have no extra sugar in this funfetti protein brownie.
- Don’t over-bake the brownies or they might get tough; Remove when the tester/knife comes out mostly dry.
Underbaking a little is okay.
- Use whey-casein vanilla protein powder for the frosting so it blends well and smooth with the yogurt.
- Stir frosting vigorously until smooth; It might take a minute, but it will mix!
How to store Funfetti brownies?
These funfetti brownies are topped with a protein sprinkle frosting that uses yogurt, so need to be stored in the fridge.
- Keep in an airtight container!
- Refrigerate for upto 1 week.
- To freeze, place in freezer-safe zipper bags or air tight container; They should keep for 2-3 months.

I made this a few weeks ago and finally got around to taking it out of the freezer. It was very yummy. I really enjoyed it, not too chocolaty (if that is such a thing!) and the frosting was not too sweet. Definitely something I will have on rotation!
OMG YASSS! The chocolate + frosting really is wonderful here.
Glad to get another one on your rotation.
