Peanut Butter Banana Pretzel Brownies – all the best flavor-combinations for chocolate in one healthy brownie recipe! These easy pretzel brownies are also gluten free, completely flourless, and made in a blender – as easy as it gets.
Jump to RecipeI think we all love the PB pretzel, PB Chocolate and PB banana thing right?
So you can just imagine how amazing all of these ingredients in one recipe must be – literally the most heavenly cakey brownies you can get!
And If you thought that these brownies couldn’t get better, here’s something more: High protein and gluten free pretzels! Yup, you heard that right. I used protein pretzels for this recipe sponsored by Kay’s Naturals.
They’re also fairly high in fiber and have simple and clean ingredients, so quite a healthy recipe here!
Ingredients for Peanut Butter Banana Pretzel Brownies
These flourless brownies not only have no flour, but no oil, no butter and no milk either!
Here’s what I used, but there’s a bunch of alternatives below.
- Bananas – use the spotty overripe ones so you have good banana bread brownies!
- Creamy Peanut Butter – this is the fat source here to replace the butter
- Applesauce – the plain unsweetened one
- An Egg for a cakey texture
- Cacao Powder – I used raw Cacao powder to give these brownies that dark chocolate flavor
- 1:1 Sugar-free Sugar Substitute for sugar-free brownies
- Baking Powder for the rise
- And then the main ingredient – the Pretzel Sticks! I used high protein gluten free pretzels from Kay’s Naturals for this recipe.
These peanut butter banana pretzel brownies are more light and cakey, but if you want fudgy brownies, I would try leaving out the egg – this would also make them Vegan.
Replacing it with a flax egg (1 tablespoon flaxseed meal + 2½ tablespoons water let rest 5 minutes) is another option, but I haven’t tried it yet.
How to make Banana Blender Brownies:
So the reason these are called peanut butter blender brownies is because they’re actually just made in a blender – or food processor – and then baked.
Quite an easy process that takes about 2 minutes – even that oven will take longer to preheat!
- Preheat your oven to 350°F
- Blend the bananas, peanut butter, applesauce and egg in a blender
- Mix the cacao/cocoa powder, sugar-free sugar and baking powder in a bowl, add it in, and blend again
- Pour ⅔ of the gooey fudgy brownie batter into a parchment-lined 8×8” pan
- Spread the chopped pretzel sticks, reserving a few
- Pour the remaining brownie batter, top with the remaining pretzels
If you want to make it pretty, add some dollops of peanut butter too and make little swirl patterns. They’ll get nicely browned and make these kind of like caramel pretzel brownies. - Bake for exactly 20 minutes
And that’s it!
Super easy flourless banana brownies in under 30 minutes!
Don’t forget to let them cool completely before you slice them since they’re quite soft.
P.S. if you want to get creative, you can try making pretzel crust brownies by completely cruising the pretzels and making a crust like you would a cheesecake!
Can you store Peanut Butter Pretzel Brownies?
Of course! These chocolate brownies make are a great meal prep dessert for the week and are freezer friendly too!
Keep them at room temperature in an airtight container for about 2-3 days.
If they last longer, in the fridge for about a week (airtight container again).
And for something even longer, individually wrap the pieces in plastic wrap, place them in zipper bags and keep them in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Substitutions for Peanut Butter Brownies:
I make these healthy brownie bars with peanut butter, cacao powder and applesauce, but there’s a lot of alternatives you can use here.
- Banana: Replace this with pure pumpkin puree or unsweetened applesauce. You might need some more sweetener in this case.
- Applesauce: Same as above – pumpkin puree or just more banana!
- Peanut Butter: Any other nut or seed butter – almond butter, cashew butter, macadamia butter, all great options!
- Cacao Powder: Plain old unsweetened cocoa. Don’t use the Dutch Processed one, it’s quite different.
- 1:1 Sugar Free Sugar Substitute: Just regular fine sugar
- Baking powder: 1 tsp of Baking soda
With so many alternatives, this is clearly the most flexible and best banana brownies you can make!
