Kinda pretty but still healthy Protein Cake Pops made with just 4 ingredients, and no bake too! These low calorie high protein cake bites are Vegan, gluten free and sugar free; A great birthday cake protein snack or dessert recipe.
Jump to RecipeI actually considered making a regular healthy cake pop recipe here with baked cake, but a no bake version was a lot easier – and quicker too.
The hard part of the recipe here was actually the shoot, because those cake pops just refused to stand up for the shoot.
Scotch tape was quite a lifesaver here, so it all worked out in the end.
Ingredients for No Bake Healthy Protein Cake Pops
These healthy protein cake pops are made with 4 simple ingredients like oat flour and coconut flour, and are great for a healthy snack. Here’s all that goes in:
- Oat Flour – You can make your own with rolled oats in a blender
- Vanilla Protein Powder for high protein cake balls recipe, and also replace the sweetener.
I recommend the ProteinWorld Slender Blend or Whey Protein Powder for this recipe to keep it sugar free; Use the code HAYLSKITCHEN for a discount.
Another option would be Quest. - Coconut Flour
- More Unsweetened Almond Milk
For the Chocolate Coating for a Cake Pops look:
- White Chocolate Chips or Chopped Chocolate. I would recommend Lily’s to keep it sugar free.
- A bit of Coconut Oil
- Sprinkles
Tips for High Protein Cake Pop Recipe
This high protein cake pop recipe is a no bake, and really is quite easy. Here’s some pointers to get it right.
- Add more milk/coconut flour to mix if too dry/wet; Mixture should be handleable and rollable.
- Taste the batter and see if you need some extra sweetener. I’d recommend using stevia powder to maintain the consistency of the dough and have sugar free no bake cake pops.
- Melt chocolate in increments in the microwave; Be careful about this or it may burn.
If you want to be safe, use the double boiler approach.
- Let the melted chocolate cool a bit before coating the cake pops.
- Insert cake pop sticks into cardboard box (pierce small holes first) or styrofoam block, to harden.
To Store Protein Cake Bites
These high protein cake bites are best stored in the fridge since they do have a bit of milk in there.
To store birthday cake protein energy balls in the fridge, keep in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
To freeze cake batter protein bites, place cooled balls in an airtight sealed container or freezer safe zipper bag for 2-3 months. Let them thaw on the counter before eating!
Alternate ingredients for Healthy Cake Pops
I made heathy and low calorie protein cake pops with the ingredients above, but here’s some other clean alternatives you can try.
- Oat flour: Almond flour
- Coconut Flour: Try 3x the amount of almond flour (I haven’t given this a try yet, but it should work)
- Almond Milk: Regular milk or other non dairy milk
- White Chocolate Chips: Milk or dark chocolate chips – Lakanto for a sugar free option here (code HAYLSKITCHEN for the discount)
To make Vegan Cake Pops
Use a plant based protein powder and dairy free chocolate chips to make Vegan protein cake pop balls; There’s no cream, no butter and no eggs in here already 🙂
ProteinWorld has a Vegan protein blend as well (HAYLSKITCHEN for the discount here too) which would be great for these birthday cake protein balls.

Hi, I was wondering if I could use almond flour instead of coconut flour?
Hi Ash! You can try about 1/2 to 2/3 cup of Almond Flour in place of Coconut Flour; It’s not a 1:1 substitution since coconut flour absorbs a lot more liquid. I’d love to know how this turns out for you!
I love that these protein cake balls are only a few simple ingredients!
I really tried to keep these cake pops as minimalistic as possible; No baking, no wait time, no complicated process. Just easy, healthy and high protein 🙂
