Ingredients For Nutella Protein Donuts
These healthy Nutella Protein Donuts are made with clean ingredients like whole wheat pastry flour and applesauce instead of butter. They’re also sweetened with protein powder and have a sugar-free nutella substitute too!
- Chocolate Protein Powder – This adds in sweetness for a sugar-free donut. I used Quest Nurition Chocolate Protein Powder for this donut recipe since it’s whey-casein and bakes well.
- Unsweetened Cocoa
- Sugar free Chocolate-Nut Butter Spread/Nutella! I used the monk-fruit sweetened Nutella substitute – Suntella – from Lakanto for this recipe since it’s sugar free (same code here too).
- Whole Wheat Pastry Flour – or a regular all purpose flour
- Unsweetened Applesauce – Replaces the fat that’s in most donut recipes.
- Egg Whites
- Non-fat Greek Yogurt
- Baking Powder
And for the Nutella Glaze on these
- More Chocolate-Nut Butter Spread/Nutella
- Whey Casein Chocolate Protein Powder; I used the one from Quest Nurition again here.
- Unsweetened Cocoa
- 1:1 Sugar Free Powdered Sugar Replacement: I used Lakanto powdered monk fruit and erythritol sweetener (code HAYLSKITCHEN gets you a discount here too)
- Almond Milk
Some Tips For Chocolate Hazelnut Protein Donuts
- Make sure your mixture has enough moisture in it. Protein powder is quite absorbent and if the wet ingredients are too little, the donuts will be dry! The mix should be like a slightly thick brownie batter.
- Use room temperature egg whites and yogurt so they mix well with the dry ingredients.
- Grease the donut pan if it isn’t silicon.
- Let the donuts cool completely before spreading the glaze on them.
How to store Nutella Protein Doughnuts?
These homemade nutella protein doughnuts keep really well in the fridge, freezer, or even at room temperature.
Store chocolate hazelnut protein doughnuts in an airtight container for 2-3 hours at room temperature, 5 days in the fridge or freeze for up to 2 months.
