Fall-perfect Pecan Pie Protein Shake with all the cozy flavor and nutrition! Low fat, high protein pecan smoothie uses sugar-free ice cream and a brown sugar alternative too.
Jump to RecipeWhile most pecan pie smoothies use the actual pie as an ingredient, this healthy and high protein smoothie uses protein powder, pecans, sugar-free brown sugar and some cinnamon to get that flavor.
Not even kidding, the flavor really was so rich and beautiful, I finished ¾ of the shake in one giant sip!
Ingredients in Pecan Pie Protein Shake
This pecan pie protein shake is made with clean and healthy ingredients, and had no added sugar either!
- Vanilla Protein Powder: This is the core ingredient to this pecan protein shake. Make sure you use a good quality one. I recommend Whey-Casein from Quest Nutrition for this recipe to make it thick and smooth.
- Vanilla Ice Cream: This is what makes the plain old drink a thick milkshake! Add as much or little as you like.
I recommend Nick’s since it’s got no added sugar and is Keto-friendly too. - Greek Yogurt
- Zero Calorie Brown Sugar – This is the Brown Monkfruit 1:1 Sugar Substitute from Lakanto, and keeps this recipe sugar free; (code HAYLSKITCHEN for a discount here)
- Cinnamon
- Chopped Pecans
- Unsweetened Almond Milk: The base, and also keeps this dairy free! Use unsweetened because the sweetness of the protein powder should be enough for the recipe.
- Crushed Ice
How do you make the Perfect Pecan Protein Shake?
This pecan protein shake really is a one step process; Just blend everything in a blender, but here’s some tips to get it right.
- Use whey-casein protein powder as specified. It works well with the ratio of ingredients here.
Whey-casein absorbs more liquid, and whey absorbs less, so you need to adjust the liquid accordingly.
- Put the wet ingredients in the blender first, then ice, the dry ingredients. This prevents the dry ingredients from sticking to the bottom of the blender.
- Scrape down the sides of the blender as needed so everything mixes well.
- Blend until all the ice is crushed and you have a smooth shake; It might take a bit longer depending on the blender, but it will work out.
More options for Healthy Pecan Smoothie
I made this a low-calorie and healthy protein pecan smoothie with the list of ingredients I mentioned, but here’s some other alternatives.
- Zero Calorie Brown Sugar Alternative: Regular coconut sugar or brown sugar (this won’t be sugar free though, and also higher in calories)
- Greek Yogurt: Regular yogurt, or Coconut Yogurt
- Sugar-Free Vanilla Ice Cream: Regular vanilla ice cream
- Almond Milk: Other non-dairy or regular milk
If you’re Vegan, use a dairy-free ice cream and yogurt, as well as plant based protein powder to make this pecan protein shake; I recommend Dymatize Complete Plant Protein Powder.
