For the Protein Custard Layer in this Banana Pudding
- Non-fat Greek Yogurt for a high protein custard. It also adds creaminess.
- Vanilla Protein Powder; This is the source of sweetness in the protein custard for this layered dessert. No added sugar in this recipe.I recommend Whey Protein like this one from Isopure.
- Banana flavored Instant Pudding Mix: I used this sugar free and fat free one from Jello. This gives the pudding its signature banana taste.
- A bit of Unsweetened Almond Milk
For the Banana Pudding essentials:
- Vanilla Wafers; I used these gluten free vanilla wafers from Kinnikinnick Foods; Or use High Key for a Keto one
- Sliced Banana
How to Make a High-Protein Banana Pudding Jar
Follow these simple steps to create a delicious, high-protein banana pudding jar with layers of creamy banana-flavored pudding, crunchy vanilla wafers, and fresh banana slices.
Step 1: Mix the Protein Pudding
In a medium-sized bowl, combine Greek yogurt, protein powder, banana-flavor instant pudding mix and milk.
Slowly add milk a little at a time, whisking continuously until the mixture reaches a thick and smooth pudding consistency.
Step 2: Prepare the Layering Ingredients
Before assembling, have your layering ingredients ready: crush the vanilla wafers and slice the bananas.
Step 3: Assemble the Banana Pudding Jar
To build the perfect layered high-protein banana pudding jar, follow this order:
- First Layer: Spoon a layer of banana protein pudding into the bottom of a jar or serving cup.
- Second Layer: Sprinkle a layer of crushed vanilla wafers over the pudding.
- Third Layer: Arrange a layer of banana slices on top of the wafers.
- Repeat the layers one more time (pudding, wafers, banana slices) to create a beautiful, stacked dessert.
Step 4: Chill & Serve
For the best flavor and texture, chill the assembled pudding jar for at least 15-30 minutes before serving. This allows the wafers to soften slightly while keeping the banana slices fresh.
Tips for Protein Powder Banana Cream Pudding
This banana cream pudding with protein powder is rich and tasty and actually very easy to make!
- Use cold milk and yogurt;
- Add milk a little at a time so the custard doesn’t get too runny.
- Stir custard vigorously until smooth; It might take a minute, but you don’t want a lumpy custard.
- Use ripe, not overripe bananas; They shouldn’t have brown spots on them.
- Taste the custard and see if you need some extra sweetener. I’d recommend using stevia powder to maintain the consistency of the pudding and have a sugar free and healthy protein trifle.
