Extra fudgy Protein Brownie Bites that are actually sugar free, butter-free and healthy! These healthy protein brownie bites use protein powder, monkfruit sweetener and a ton of Greek yogurt for a clean indulgent dessert.
I made these mini protein brownies as a meal prep post-breakfast dessert for a weekend trip, and loved them so much I had to share.
Also, my Instagram audience really seemed to want the recipe too, so here we are – a healthy, mini protein brownies recipe!
Ingredients for Protein Brownie Bites
These protein brownie bites are made with clean and healthy ingredients, have no eggs, no butter, no sugar and are gluten free too; The perfect chocolate protein powder recipe!
- Chocolate Protein Powder needed for high protein brownie and also replaces most of the ‘sugar’. I used part whey-caesin Chocolate Donut flavor from HTLT Supps, and part Chocolate Whey from Protein World for this recipe (Code HAYLSKITCHEN gives a discount on ProteinWorld).
- Unflavored Protein Powder to replace some of the flour (and carbs) in the recipe for a slightly lower carb high protein brownie. Quest Nutriton Multi-purpose here.
- Unsweetened Cocoa Powder, or Raw Cacao Powder
- Gluten Free (All Purpose) Baking Flour – or a regular all purpose flour
- 1:1 Zero Calorie Sugar Substitute – I use Lakanto, to keep this recipe sugar free; (code HAYLSKITCHEN for a discount here too)
- Some Stevia Sweetener
- Non-fat Greek Yogurt contributes to the oil-free part of these high protein brownies since it adds the moisture, and also extra protein
- Almond Milk or regular milk
- Baking Soda
- Vanilla Extract
- Runny Chocolate or Caramel flavored Almond Butter or Cashew Butter;
I used Caramel Crunch Cappuccino flavor from American Dream Nut Butter flavor.
ADNB also has a lot of other almond butters that would go perfect here. Code HAYLSKITCHEN gets you a discount here!
And for some extra chocolatiness:
- Chocolate Chips: I use the sugar free one from Lakanto here (same code HAYLSKITCHEN for a discount)
Tips for Perfect Protein Powder Brownie Bites
These mini protein powder brownie bites are rich and tasty and actually very easy to make!
- Use room temperature milk and yogurt;
This is so the wet ingredients and dry ingredients of the brownie batter can mix well.
- Use Runny Almond or Cashew also so that it mixes well into the batter
- Don’t over-mix the batter!
Make sure you gently fold the dry mix into the wet to combine them.
If you over-mix it, the protein powder will make the fudgy brownies tough, dense and gummy.
- Taste the batter and see if you need some extra sweetener. I’d recommend using stevia powder to maintain the consistency of the batter and have sugar free and healthy fudgy brownies.
- Don’t over-bake the brownies or they might get tough; Remove when the tester/knife comes out still moist.
Underbaking a little is okay.
How to store Mini Protein Brownies?
This high protein mini brownies keeps well for a meal prep dessert or post workout snack.
Store protein powder mini brownies in an airtight container on the countertop for 2 days, or in the fridge for a week.
To freeze healthy mini brownies, individually wrap in plastic wrap and place in freezer-safe zipper bags or air tight container; They should keep for 2-3 months.
Alternatives for Healthy Brownie Bites
For the perfect healthy low calorie brownie bites, I used protein powder, monkfruit and stevia, and I would highly suggest using the ingredients recommended.
I do have some alternatives you can try. I haven’t testing them all, so I can’t say how the recipe might turn out.
- 1:1 Gluten Free Baking Flour: All purpose flour or Whole Wheat Pastry Flour, in the same amount by weight not cups.
- Unflavored Protein Powder: 20g more Flour, but also reduce yogurt to 1¼ cup (281g)
- Greek Yogurt: Coconut Yogurt
- Almond Milk: Any other milk
- 1:1 Zero Calorie Sugar Replacement: Regular confectioners sugar or coconut sugar (this won’t be sugar free though, and also higher in calories)
- Almond Butter: Cashew Butter, Tahini or any nut or seed butter.
- Chocolate Chips: Chopped chocolate

Hey so I’m wondering if I can use all casein protein and no flour at all? Also do I have to add the nut butter? Can I sub that for more yogurt or for more water? Thanks
Hi! Unfortunately you wont be able to use only casein protein powder.
You could try only whey protein (and reduce the amount of milk to 1/3 cup) but I haven’t had any experience with using only casein. So I can’t say how this will turn out.
Replacing the flour entirely with protein powder will not work well. You do want the brownie bites to have some proper texture, and using protein-powder-only will make it dry.
You can try replacing flour with powdered oats/oat flour.
Nut butter is needed. You night be able to use more yogurt (but also add some extra vanilla extract maybe)
I’ve made these delicious brownie bites 4 times already.. I’m sooo in love with them .. they taste amazing and you’ll never tell it’s healthy .
4 times? I think you’ve made these protein brownie bites more times than I have!
I’m so happy you loved them so much to go again.
Definitely not one you can tell is “healthy”
