With a hint of cinnamon and vanilla and sweet mashed bananas in the milk-egg mix, this Banana French Toast is ultimate breakfast goals indeed! Made with whole wheat bread and almond milk, these slices are healthy too.
Jump to RecipeMy plan was actually to make a banana bread french toast because we’re all really obsessed with banana bread right now, and when I saw a recipe similar recipe to this on Instagram, I went for it.
Did the shoot and everything, and then realized that a banana bread french toast is made with the actual baked good, and not normal bread.
Well whatever the traditional version may be, this is a recipe for french toast with bananas that uses whole wheat bread, but actually tastes like the OG nana-bread french toast!
What you need for this super easy Banana French Toast?
- Whole wheat or other whole grain bread to keep it healty. A sprouted seed bread works great too!
- A small banana. This gives the french toast a natural sweetness without any sugar or maple syrup.
- 1 Egg – You need this to give that dunking mix a good custard like flavor. Adds some richness too.
- Almond Milk – No dairy, no milk, no heavy cream in this french toast guys! You can use any other, but lets keep it a little healthy now shall we?
- Vanilla and Cinnamon – Can’t have a good banana bread or a good french toast without these, so the mash up needs it too!
- Very little butter for frying so you get that crispy edge! No tablespoons worth here like a normal french toast, so this recipe is low fat and low calorie too.
How to make it?
This is a really simple recipe.
- Just mash the banana with a fork in a shallow bowl or dish
- Whisk in the egg, milk, vanilla and cinnamon to make the custard base
- Dunk the bread in that mix and let it soak up the good stuff
- Heat a skillet on medium low and melt a tad bit of butter on it
- Cook the soaked bread on for about 2-3 minutes on each side until its nicely golden brown and delish!
- Top it with your faves. I added some stevia sweetened maple syrup from Sweetleaf Stevia and chocolate chips from Lily’s.
Why you should make it?
Think of this, a french toast with bananas, chocolate and pecans!
